Yesterday I sat waiting with many other nervous parents waiting for my son to take his test for "Temps" so he can start learning to drive. I was amazed with the number of teenagers coming in and out, either taking their test for "Temps" or to take their drivers exam. My son passed, so our next step was walking over to get his temporaries issued. Back when I got my licence, you just got a blue piece of paper you had to take with you when you practiced driving. My son's temps are like a mini driver's licence complete with his photo, goodness how things have changed. They also give you a sticker to put in the car that says "Student Driver" My, I am not sure I am ready for this, my nerves are going to receive a shock for sure. My son also wants his grandpa to teach him as well...'"Mr State Trooper" who when I was learning how to drive, brought everyone of us kids to tears. I am sure everything will go good.
Here comes another ...well not so shocking event..another winter storm...ho-hum..la-dee-da. Who came up with ground hog day anyway? I have been listening to my Midland radio, set on N.O.A.A radio in Wilmington, Ohio and we are in Central, Ohio and most of Oho under a "Winter Storm Warning" for Saturday through til Monday. Large amounts of snow and ice accumulations are forecast at 90% are supposed to start tomorrow evening. It will be a nightmare around town, everyone will be heading out to the stores..again, of course by now we are so used to it..it is like a group of zombies strolling around gathering things automatically. I am done driving this week, so I am not too worried about it.
If any of you have to go out tomorrow or anytime this week Or if the East Coast gets slammed after us this coming week..PLEASE BE CAREFUL!
I can't believe this, but March is coming in like a lion, we are going to get another winter storm this weekend. I was hoping that The Old Farmer's Almanac would be wrong...here's hoping still..maybe it could be wrong.
My thoughts are on spring and gardening, this is about the time when we all get the seed and plant catalogs out to plan what we will plant this year. I long to see green buds on the trees and bushes, the sounds of birds chirping and little crocuses popping up in the flower beds. Daffodils, Tulips and Hyacinths making their colorful appearance throughout the newly greening landscape.
I have always wanted to see The Public Gardens in Boston,MA. I have always heard it was very beautiful.
Hope spring doesn't stay away too much longer.
I only have seen pictures of "The Public Gardens" isn't that wonderful looking
Here in Ohio, Close to, The Columbus Dispatch published this photo from "The Home And Garden Show" going on now in Columbus
Someone posted one of those funny real pictures with sayings of what the animals are thinking, "The Joke" reminded me of when the three of us girls get together sometimes. My sisters usually ride up front and I ride in back (Mainly because I don't want to drive with these two in the car, I get laughing too much and forget where I am going). You know how when you get with your siblings, the conversation is basically the same, what is going on in the family, cousins, aunts,etc...but every once in a while, the topic of "Personal Opinion" comes up. With my sisters, its fashion. My eldest sister leans toward "Modern" looks and trends, while my other sister and I are kinda in with "Today fashion" but with certain reservations on the ..lets say..less outlandish trendy stuff.. we are more conservative. To give you an example. My eldest sister has had her ear pierced several times, while my other sister and I only have had our ears pierced once.
I'll never forget my dad's face when my eldest sister said she wanted a tattoo...that went over real well..not. Then she mentioned she wanted to sky-dive..my dad's response (Keep in mind that she is short and real thin) "Are you kidding..it would take you forever to come down..you'd be like a kite."
My second oldest sister is just like my dad and when stuff like this comes up into the conversation, her responses are on the same line as my father's. These two tigers well..would be just like my sisters having a discussion on the "I told you so" factor.
Enjoy!
Coming home today from my screening, I heard on my car radio about one of the cities picked in The United States to possibly host the summer Olympics. As I heard earlier this morning on the news, Columbus, Ohio was one considered. While I think it would be so wonderful for Ohio, I just can't see it happening here, mainly because I don't think Columbus would be big enough to hold all the events associated with the summer games.
Sure, we have the "Horseshoe"; Ohio State Campus, auditoriums, large medical area, The Scioto and Olentangy Rivers . I don't know, it is sure something to think about how they would go about doing it.
Just to be considered is a honor in itself !
With all the snow and ice hitting everywhere hard. especially the East Coast. It got me concerned about a gentleman there who I care about very much. I know it has to be tough enough to be without his parents and now all this. Has got me concerned. My parents have my brother living beside them who clears the driveway and the sidewalks for them, plus my sister is there to help. I have my son to help me dig out of this winter blast too.
I know his brothers and sisters are around with his nephews, I am sure to help, out, but the older you get, the harder it is to shovel out from all this mess, especially if you have heart problems. Like he does, I am not sure how stubborn he is about doing things himself but I am also sure that his siblings would get after him if he did.
Just worried because none of us are as young as we were and well, I care about him a great deal.
So if he is reading this, Please be careful. walking with the ice and snow and dealing with all the cold temperatures. I pray that you are doing well and all the family is safe.
I think about you all up there, its bad enough here, but worse where you are. I know too how winter blahs can get to ya and with your recent loss and grey days combined can get a person down, even with great faith in God, after all we are only human. You all miss you folks so much because you were and are still very close. My family is that way too.
"I thank my God every time I remember you" Philippians 1:13 NIV
'' Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ..who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God." 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV
Love you , I hope this brings you a smile for the day and soothes your soul. Love you all!
All of us can remember the CB radio from the seventies. Midland of course lead the way. My Grandfather loved radio and had the CB radio, in his trucks and boat. His handle was KBI5141, Fisherman Bill. I still remember him saying that, riding with him in his Chevrolet.
Must be were I get my love for radio.
During all these bad winter storms of late, my Midland Weather Radio has been getting a workout. Come this Thursday as the weather is going to warm up in the fifties and sixties. Already they are calling for severe thunderstorms and we are still February. My dad told me that The Farmer's Almanac is calling for a blizzard in March to top the "Blizzard Of 78". I can tell you that I am hoping its wrong as this winter has been one for the books.
I love my little weather band my brother gave me in 1988, it is rough looking but still is going strong, even though lighting has buzzed through it. It has a weather alarm that can send you out of your skin when it goes off. My sister always teases me that I should have been a meteorologist. I don't know about that, since Science wasn't my strongest subject in school and taking online courses recently about weather patterns to predict bad weather, all I can muster is a "B" average.
At any rate, I always consult my weather band every morning, just like my grandpa did. If he was still alive, he'd get a kick out of me doing the same thing, I am sure. In my mind I can still hear his wonderful laugh.
I will be having my Midland on and my alarm set in case it gets rough, throughout the years it has been a faithful servant . It sits neatly in my kitchen, by my sink with its antenna sticking up proudly from its little base. "It's Perfect Place For It" my brother's wife tells me "It looks like it was made for it."
I had watched Dick Goddard weather reports for years living in Willard, Ohio
Everyone stay safe, my love to you all!
The newer Midland radio alarm is pretty tame compared to what my old "88"
I have been up on the computer filling out applications to arts and crafts stores and putting together a portfolio of my art, along with a resume to send to companies looking for Illustrators. I am waiting for my rash to go away, its still hanging on, anyway. In my research of different places, I came across a very amazing article about a man who passed away recently, who had been married 67 amazing years with his beloved wife.
I guess to a great deal of folks, this maybe not be such an amazing thing, only how much this man was loved. He went above and beyond the call to help those in need. Served in World War II and witnessed some amazing moments during that war, not to mention his bravery.
What struck me as so amazing, was the similarities he shared with my own dad. I can only hope and pray that my parents will celebrate that many years together. I kept thinking, how close to home it all was to me and that no matter where you are from, the miles just fade and its like staring into a mirror of your own reflection.
My father, helped his grandfather work on a farm with draft horses, just down the way from Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware, Ohio. All that my dad knows about horses and farming came from his grandpa. My dad fought bravely in the Korean War as an Army Ranger and Sergeant. He used his G.I bill for his education in Mechanics, learning how to fix aircraft engines as well. I always had deep respect for Veterans but understanding similarities of these men, made me appreciate and respect them even more. My father, like this man always put in many hours of work, but always found time to spend with us kids. Men like that are so hard to find
It makes a person bring to light just how much we are the same, even though we don't even know the other. Different but same, is it really that, don't we find the more we find out about each other, slowly the walls come down.
Yesterday, we had a party for my oldest sister, who turned fifty on the thirteenth. She like my dad seems to have inherited the ability to figure out surprises. We tried to keep it a secret , but she knew something was going on. She was overwhelmed by the party we all threw for her and loved every minute of it. Valentines decorations and all!
Next year my brother will be celebrating his fiftieth, and then the year after that I will. Time sure has flown and of course the kids of yesterday, have all grown up and older. So everyone who have just leaped over in the golden years, or perhaps have been basking in its glory for several years now. Gold is indeed precious!
